Final Fantasy IX Dominates PSN Sales Charts

Fans were surprised to see an HD PS4 re-release for Final Fantasy IX, one of the most loved games in the series. While it's essentially a port of the Steam version, many felt it was fitting since the original game did come out on the original PlayStation. It looks like Square Enix struck gold with the re-release, as the title has been dominating the PSN sales charts.

According to Sony Japan, the PSOne classic was number one in digital downloads from Sept 17 to 23. In the US Store, the game has dropped a few spots but is still in the top five. This is most likely due to the price hike since the game debuted with a week-long discount and has since reverted to its original price. Adding an exclusive theme and avatars also helped.

This version of Final Fantasy IX is basically a smoother version of the original game. Character models have more detail and there is now an option to make battles faster. Players can even turn off random battles to get through certain areas faster, similar to the 3DS classic Bravely Default.

JRPG fans can download Final Fantasy IX on the PS4 now. An HD version of Final Fantasy VII is also available for download, released to get fans excited for the upcoming remake. Now all fans need is a Final FantasyVIII HD re-release.
