Spider-Man: No Way Home marked the triumphant return of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man as well as the villains that he faced in his trilogy. Of course, Maguire played the very first cinematic iteration of our friendly neighbor and a lot of people still consider him as their favorite Spider-Man or the version that they grew up in.
His comeback ignited a renowned interest for a fourth film featuring the character. Now, a lot of fans are currently petitioning on social media with the hashtag "#MakeRaimiSpiderMan4" to hopefully have Tobey Maguire return for a fourth film with Sam Raimi also coming back to direct. Here are some of the tweets:
After the release of Spider-Man 3, there were plans to make a fourth Spider-Man film with John Malkovich playing the Vulture and Anne Hathaway playing Felicia Hardy. Unfortunately, the project was canceled and Maguire's journey as Spider-Man ended abruptly. Of course, they rebooted the franchise with The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield and directed by Marc Webb.
It is great to see some fans being passionate about it and Maguire's appearance in No Way Home certainly brought it to new attention. However, it is unlikely that it will happen as of now since Maguire might not be interested to play the character in a solo film and it's been 15 years since Spider-Man 3 was released so there is no definitive reason for Sony to make it especially with the numerous Spider-Man projects that are also currently in the works.
Besides this, there are also petitions right now to have Andrew Garfield star in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and there are also some who are clamoring for him to appear in Morbius since the film's release date has been delayed. Let's just wait and see if Sony will respond to those petitions.
You can catch Maguire's return in Spider-Man: No Way Home which is still showing in theaters everywhere. You can also check out our streaming guide for the film here.
