Extraordinary Attorney Woo's Tree Might Become Korea’s Natural Monument, Cultural Heritage Administration Reveals

Extraordinary Attorney Woo brought another positive impact by featuring a hackberry tree.

South Korea has been listing its natural monuments, including plants, caves, trees, groves, and morefor years. As of 2020, it already has 264 plant natural monuments.

It will soon add another natural monument as the K-drama featured another majestic tree in recent episodes.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo is an ongoing ENA K-drama about attorney Woo Young Woo, who has autism spectrum disorder. Despite that, she works at a large law firm and boasts a 164 IQ score. However, her memory and commendable performance in the industry do not help her improve her low emotional intelligence and unsatisfactory social skills.

In episodes 7 and 8, the K-drama featured a 500-year-old hackberry tree. The series told how a fictional village, called Sodeok-dong suffered damage after the road construction plan said that the tree needed to be cut down.

The hackberry tree in the drama series as the guardian tree, and the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) now eyes to make it one of Korea’s natural monuments.

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, the CHA and the Cultural Heritage Committee will launch an inquiry to study and evaluate its value and cultural asset. The process will also include looking into its history and condition.

Once approved, it would be the third hackberry tree in South Korea to receive the natural monument title.

"We think the tree has value as a cultural heritage considering its shape, age, and conditions of growth. We'll soon start an on-site inspection with experts, local government officials and residents and decide whether to designate it as a natural monument,” the CHA said on Monday, per The Korea Times.

It remains unknown whether the tree will still be featured in the next episodes. But Extraordinary Attorney Woo episode 9 will premiere on July 27 at 8:00 p.m. KST.
