Eternals Officially Becomes MCU's First 'Rotten' Film on Rotten Tomatoes

We're just a few days away from the release of Marvel Studios' latest Phase Four offering Eternals and as shocking as it is, the film is currently generating a lot of negative feedback from critics and the folks who got to see it before the official theatrical release. As it stands, the Chloé Zhao-directed project has officially lost its "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making history as the first MCU film to receive a "Rotten" rating from the popular film review website.

Eternals officially became "Rotten" over the weekend after its 61% rating dropped to 59%. Now, things still aren't looking great for the film as it currently holds a 57% score on RT out of 145 critic reviews. That's obviously something not a lot of people saw coming but when you think about it, it's still possible to turn things around with the help of the audience reviews which will be coming in once the film hits cinemas this Friday, November 5th. It would be safe to assume that the film won't be clinging on to that "Rotten" rating for long.

But what exactly isn't clicking? For starters, some fans believe that the film's inclusion of the franchise's first openly gay superhero Phastos is to blame for it receiving poor reviews. Others believe that Zhao, as good of a director as she is isn't exactly equipped to helm a Marvel epic.

At the end of the day though, it's still a matter of preference and we gotta understand that just because its Marvel we're dealing with here, it can do no wrong. I guess we'll just have to wait in the coming days if Eternals will be able to switch the tide in its favor but I gotta say, being the first "Rotten" MCU film in history has to sting.

Marvel Studios' Eternals is scheduled for a theater-exclusive release on November 5, 2021.
