Marvel Studios' forthcoming Phase Four offering Eternals hasn't even hit cinemas yet but it's already breaking records for the Marvel Cinematic Universe — but not the ones the production company would be quite thrilled about. The much-awaited MCU flick is expected to meet and even exceed expectations but in a shocking turn of events, it looks like the film isn't clicking with critics so far.

Ahead of its worldwide release next Friday, the Chloé Zhao-directed film currently holds the distinction of being the MCU's lowest-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 61% out of 106 reviews and counting.

For the uninitiated, 61% is still enough to merit the film a "Fresh" rating on the popular film review website but if the film continues to drive negative feedback from its audience, there's a good chance that Eternals could splash below the 60% mark and in the event that happens, it'll become the first-ever MCU film to receive a "Rotten" score on the Tomatometer.

There's still hope that Eternals will be able to turn the tide and get an even higher score on Rotten Tomatoes when it finally comes out. However, if the film maintains its bad reviews, it's not gonna be good for the franchise. It's extremely surprising, to be honest, especially considering the MCU's track record.

But just when you thought the studio has finally recovered from the nightmare brought by divisive films like Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3, it looks like they aren't invincible after all. Still, I'll leave my judgment when I actually see the film myself. At the end of the day, it's still a matter of preference.

Marvel Studios' Eternals is scheduled for a theater-exclusive release on November 5, 2021.
