Marvel Studios' Eternals opened strongly at the US box office with $71 million on opening day and when you think about it, such feat would have been enough to give the studio a sigh of relief. However, the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe flick continues to underperform in the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.

Ahead of the film's theatrical release, Eternals made comic book film history by becoming the first MCU film to receive a "Rotten" score on the said site. Many people were expecting the film to be able to turn the tide during its opening weekend and while the Audience Score has generally been favorable with an 81% rating, the film's Critics Score continues to dip.

Currently, Eternals holds an underwhelming 48% rating out of 297 reviews and counting which is down from last week's 50% score. Some believe that the negative reviews have something to do with the film's inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters but if you'll check out the social media reactions, fans seem to be divided.

While the film has maintained a satisfactory rating thanks to the fans, Eternals' critic score dipping to a surprising 48% on Rotten Tomatoes still isn't a good sign. Of course, I still believe that it will always go down to preference but clearly, Marvel Studios failed to hit both audiences for the first time in nearly a decade which is quite baffling.

Now, in case you are worried about the celestial heroes' future in the MCU amid all the negative critic feedback the film has been generating, It would still be safe to assume that a potential sequel that is reportedly being discussed could actually happen given the fact that the film is currently performing well at the box office.

Marvel Studios' Eternals is now screening in cinemas.
