Dungeons & Dragons Star Chris Pine Weighs in on 'Lusty Bard' Stereotypes

We finally got to see the first trailer for the highly anticipated Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and not surprisingly, it was confirmed that Chris Pine is playing a charming bard. But will the film actually play up on some of the usual stereotypes about the class? The Wonder Woman 1985 star has addressed the possibility of Edgin Darvis living up to the typical bard archetypes in the upcoming flick.

So far, we've only seen a small glimpse of what to expect in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves but it's clear that Chris Pine's character is a bard who uses his charm to get by in life. Interestingly, Pine shared his thoughts on Edgin being the quintessential bard.

Comicbook.com spoke to Chris Pine during San Diego Comic-Con and the Star Trek 4 actor gave an awesome response when asked whether Edgin will have the usual characteristics of a bard like being "lusty."

"Certainly, I have a lusty heart," Pine said. "But this is a certain type of film for a certain type of audience so that's probably downplayed a bit. Musicality...I think Edgin certainly believes he has some, whether or not that's true is up for the audience to decide."

He also pointed out that Edgin is a natural leader. "He's a party planner like he tells Doric in the trailer," Pine said. "He's a man of great expectations, and even in the face of incredible odds, he refuses to give up."

But will Pine's bard have certain tricks up his sleeve, like a superpower and special skill? "As I play in most things, he has no special powers while surrounded by people who do," Pine stated.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant. The film is scheduled for release on March 3, 2023.
