Dresden Files Author Jim Butcher Cancels Emerald City Comic Con Appearance Due to Coronavirus Concerns


Jim Butcher, the New York Times best-selling author of the Dresden Files series, has cancelled his appearance at the Emerald City Comic-Con (ECCC).

Celebrity bookstore Bard's Tower shared the news on its Facebook page, saying that it's committed to the continued health and safety of its author guests and all the fans.

"Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus COVID-19 in the Seattle area, Bard's Tower and its authors will not be attending Emerald City Comic Con," Bard's Tower said in a statement. "We feel the risk to the public health and safety of attendees, guests, and the general public is too high in such a densely populated, enclosed environment. To everyone expecting our presence there, we are deeply sorry to cancel at this late date, but safety must come first."

"All of the author guests of Bard's Tower, of course, appreciate and love their fans and regret missing this chance to meet you all face to face," Bard's Tower said. "We hope to find a way to make it up to you in the future. In the meantime, we will be announcing an opportunity to order signed books from the ECCC author guests soon."

Other authors who were set to appear at ECCC inculde New York Times Bestseller and master of alternate history Eric Flint, Star Trek Next Generation luminary and author Melinda Snodgrass, Tie-in Fiction Grand master Keith DeCandido (Precinct Series, Supernatural, Star Trek, Aliens) Mario Acevedo, Cat Rambo, Peter Orullian, Michelle Cori, Amazon Bestseller Marion G Harmon (Wearing the Cape), Brian Anderson (Bard's Blade), and Megan Mackie (Lucky Devil).

According to Public Health - Seattle & King County, seven new cases of coronavirus were confirmed on Tuesday, including two more deaths, bringing the total statewide coronavirus death toll to 9.

Last week, the major Magic: The Gathering event in Italy, MagicFest Turin, was cancelled due to the outbreak.

The Emerald City Comic-Con takes place at the Washington Convention Center on March 12-15.

Peace Talks will hit shelves on July 14, 2020. It's now available for pre-order on Amazon. This will be the first new Dresden Files novel since 2014's Skin Game.
