Why Didn't Yuji Get Reverse Cursed Technique (RCT) Earlier?
Compared to those born into jujutsu families, Yuji joined the world of jujutsu sorcerers later in life. Since Cursed Techniques are usually hereditary, he didn't have one.
As such, a Reverse Cursed Technique, aka a jujutsu sorcery art that turns cursed energy into positive energy, wasn't in the cards for him either, as this should normally be attached to an existing technique.

For years, fans have been theorizing about the possibility of Yuji acquiring a Cursed Technique.
This is a shounen anime after all, and while Jujutsu Kaisen avoids many of the tropes and delves into darker territories, it's hard to imagine a shounen without an overpowered main character.
Does Yuji Get RCT? JJK's Latest Chapter Seems to Confirm It
The newest Jujutsu Kaisen chapter seems to reveal that Yuji has somehow mastered the Reverse Cursed Technique, which he gets to show off in his endgame battle against Sukuna.
While Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 148 isn't officially out as of writing, raw scans and leaks are available a few days before the latest updates make it to VIZ.
Moreover, Chapter 147 ends with Yuji proudly declaring that he's a sorcerer, which foreshadows his newest power upgrade.
Fans are vocal online because they love this development.
Yuji is a loveable protagonist who has been through a lot, but many fans have underestimated him in favor of Satoru Gojo, who garnered a larger fanbase due to his cool attitude and OP status.
Even in-universe, many underestimated Yuji, including Sukuna himself, while some fans accused creator Gege Akutami of sidelining his original trio for less important characters.
Yuji Itadori fans are excited to the point of sharing his RCT spoiler update in their X profile names, feeling justified for having believed in Yuji from the beginning.
Yuta Okkotsu has now also entered the battle against Sukuna, but many readers hope that the final blow will be Yuji's, which would make sense since we have followed him from the start.
