Why Can Sukuna Use Fire in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Sukuna is such a mysterious character that we can liken him to Pandora’s box.
As for why Sukuna can use fire, the answer to that can be as simple as – because he can!
However, if we were to dissect it, it appears that Sukuna is an extremely intelligent jujutsu sorcerer who can manipulate his cursed energy flow any way he wants.
This then allows him to use different kinds of cursed techniques, including fire.
How Does Sukuna Use the Fire Technique in Jujutsu Kaisen?
The most iconic moment when Sukuna displays his ability to manipulate and use fire is in his battle against Jogo in the Shibuya Incident arc.
During this battle, the King of Curses, who is way more powerful than his opponent, announces that he will fight using Jogo’s specialty, which is fire.
At that moment, Sukuna chants “open” and activates the ability to manipulate flames, leaving Jogo shocked.
Sukuna and Jogo then engage in a battle as they wield their condensed flames.
Sukuna generates fire between his closed palms, spreading his hands to shape the flame into an arrow. Meanwhile, Jogo condenses his flames into a compact fireball.
Then, Sukuna holds the flaming arrow between his fingers, poised to shoot, while Jogo also prepares to attack.
A fiery exchange begins and Sukuna emerges victorious, reducing Jogo’s body to ashes in the process.
Coming back to Sukuna’s ability to use fire, his cursed technique largely remains a mystery.
But predominantly, Sukuna is known for using slashing attacks against his rivals. So, Sukuna's expansion of his range of techniques to include fire is nothing short of exemplary.
Sukuna is extremely efficient in using his innate slashing techniques namely, Dismantle and Cleave.
He even upgraded Dismantle, his usual ranged slashing move for objects, to also target cursed spirits and sorcerers effectively.
Inspired by Mahoraga’s Limitless adaptation, Sukuna expanded Dismantle to cut through the world itself, creating powerful slashes.
Meanwhile, Cleave is a slashing attack that adapts to the target’s toughness and cursed energy, aiming to defeat them in a single strike.
Sukuna can only activate it through physical contact unless within his Domain Expansion.
