Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa is set to debut as the Fifteenth Doctor in the Doctor Who universe sometime in 2023, and as it so happens, while fans were surprised yet delighted to see David Tennant transform into the 14th doctor after Jodie Whittaker, his appearance merely confirms Gatwa is set to be the fifteenth once Season 14 begins.
The official twitter page of BBC’s Doctor Who has announced that they have begun filming for the show’s fourteenth season by including their new opening sequence teaser. Starring Ncuti Gatwa as the fifteenth doctor, he will be joined by the doctor’s new companion, Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. You can check out their tweets below:
Ncuti Gatwa, who is well known for his role in Sex Education as Eric, has previously expressed his excited take on his upcoming role as part of the long-running scifi series. You can check out his full comment below:
“I am so excited, but obviously it’s daunting. It’s an iconic role and show, and I’m following in some very big footsteps, but I cannot wait to put my stamp on the character. With every few Doctor comes a new beginning for the show.”
Given Gatwa’s performance in Sex Education on Netflix and the fact that Jodie Whittaker, the 13th doctor, had praised Gatwa as part of her rising anticipation in passing the torch to the actor, we can definitely see how the fifteenth doctor can set himself apart from his predecessors.
The actor is also set to appear in Margot Robbie’s Barbie movie on July 21, 2023.
As of now, Doctor Who Season 14 has no official release date yet but the timeline follows after the 60th Anniversary Special. Meanwhile, the Doctor Who: 60th Anniversary Special will be out in November 2023.
Doctor Who will soon be coming to Disney Plus in 2023 as they begin anew with the reworked opening sequence.
