The news was shared by the official Doctor Who Twitter account in a tweet that featured Neil Patrick Harris in full costume as it was confirmed he is currently filming scenes for the special episode(s).

Incoming showrunner Russell T. Davies expressed his excitement about working with Neil Patrick Harris on the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special.

“It’s my huge honour to open our studio doors for the mighty Neil Patrick Harris… but who, why, what is he playing? You’ll just have to wait. But I promise you, the stuff we’re shooting now is off the scale. Doctor beware!” Davies said in a statement.

It's great to know that Harris is now part of the Doctor Who Universe and that filming is now underway for the 60th anniversary. But who exactly is he playing in the BBC show?
