Doctor Who Holiday Special Pays Tribute to Star Wars

There is little doubt that Doctor Who is set in its own unique universe. However, that didn't stop the BBC show's Holiday Special from paying tribute to another popular franchise. Fans have spotted an awesome Star Wars Easter Egg in Revolution of the Daleks and it's pretty hard to miss.

The Doctor Who New Year Special was undoubtedly an exciting event considering that it brought back John Barrowman's Captain Jack Harkness for a new adventure. But before that, the episode offered a recap on the past two seasons. With that in mind, Revolution of the Daleks opened with the words "A LONG TIME AGO… FAR, FAR AWAY…".

Star Wars fans will be quick to point out that it's a direct reference to the franchise's trademark opening scrawl, "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…". It is present in every Skywalker Saga film and is one of the most recognizable things about the movies.

We're loving the obvious reference to Star Wars since it allowed the episode to open with a laugh. Needless to say, we can't wait to see more awesome Easter Eggs in Doctor Who Season 13.

Revolution of the Daleks was also the last episode featuring Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole as Graham and Ryan, respectively. However, the Doctor Who Holiday Special also introduced the new Companion who will be played by comedian John Bishop in Doctor Who Season 13.

The next season of Doctor Who has not yet been given an official release date. However, Season 13 has been confirmed to only consist of eight episodes. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
