David Tennant will be once again seen as the iconic Time Lord in the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special. The first look at the Scottish actor as Doctor Who, alongside Catherine Tate’s Donna Noble, has been revealed, but Tennant himself teased there’s more to the story than the pictures show.

At the Fax Expo Boston over the weekend, Tennant talked about the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special photos. Aside from teasing what’s to come, he also made other revelations about the series.

David Tennant Returns for Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special

According to ComicBook, Tennant revealed that the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special photos “aren’t even close to the whole story.”

He then revealed that he and Tate filmed on a “closed set” with “many other people.” That said, viewers might see more than they expected in their return.

Returning showrunner Russell T. Davies also talked about Tennant and Tate’s return to the series.

However, he just gave cryptic words about it, only giving fans an array of possible things they were about to see.

"A mysteriously forgotten excursion for the TARDIS in between 'Planet of the Ood' and 'Sontaran Stratagem'?" he told Doctor Who Magazine. "Or maybe a multiverse thing, they're all the rage these days.”

He added their comeback could be Doctor and Donna from Universe 557, colliding in today’s world. He also teased that it could be possible that everything wasn’t real and it was just an intricate illusion created by an old enemy of either of the two.

“Nerys! Of course, I wouldn't give that away in the pages of DWM, would I?" he continued. "But then again. This magazine is the first place I ever revealed the name of Billie Piper's Rose (in issue 340). So read carefully. There are truths in here."

Earlier, Davies also cryptically teased that it could be a missing story, a parallel world, a dream, a trick or a flashback.

“The only thing I can confirm is that it's going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime,” he stated.

Returning Doctor Who’s Christmas Day Slot

The holiday special may follow Tennant and Tate’s 60th-anniversary special, though BBC declined to give a comment about it to Radio Times.

Doctor Who Christmas special ran from 2005 to 2017. Since then, the BBC One show has been featuring New Year’s Day specials with Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor.
