A new teaser drops for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and it reveals a ton of things to wait for the movie like Billy and Tommy seen in Wanda’s dream, Dr. Palmer getting married and not to Stephen, hints to the fiasco in a laboratory, a zombiefied version of the titular character, but what surprised many is Sinister Strange as he reveals his third eye on his forehead. Why does he have one?

Why Does Sinister Strange Have a Third Eye in the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Trailer?

In the trailer, as Doctor Strange meets with Sinister Strange, he was surprised when Sinister Strange revealed the third eye he has on his forehead. This is the very first time the third eye is seen on any of the variants of Doctor Strange and those who read the comics would really be thrilled to see this because it is straight from the pages, the Eye of Agamotto.

The Eye of Agamotto in the comics is a magical talisman that was made by none other than Agamotto himself, one of the three mystical god-like beings known as the Vishanti. It is held by the Sorcerer Supreme, and Agamotto is the first to hold that title. The Eye sees and shows the truth and it casts an all revealing light which shows what happened to get to the real truth. It cannot be used for evil but surely, there are exceptions.

In the MCU, the Eye of Agamotto was first seen as the container of the Time Stone, a necklace the Ancient one and Doctor Strange wore to protect the stone. However, there is more than what meets the eye, pun intended. See, the Eye of Agamotto gives the wearer powers such as seeing through illusions, create mystical barriers and portals to other dimensions, shoot mystic force, reverse time, and get through the veil of the Dark Dimension.

Regardless of how Sinister Strange got the third eye, what the fans are looking forward to is whether Doctor Strange will get his own version of it. The Ancient One once told him to open his eyes before sending him into the wilderness of the other dimensions but she could be referring to someone else. After all, she knows that Strange will be the best of them all.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premieres in theaters on May 6, 2022.
