Since it was revealed that Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson won't be helming the sequel due to "creative differences," Marvel fans have assumed that he and writer C. Robert Cargill could have already started on a draft. As it turns out, that's not exactly the case.

Spider-Man original trilogy director Sam Raimi is said to have been in talks with Marvel to take on the project, while Lokiseries writer Michael Waldron is recently revealed to be the one who'll work on the Doctor Strange sequel. However, they won't be working with something that Derrickson or Cargill has got so far before leaving the project, because apparently, they didn't have any.

Taking to Twitter, Cargill revealed that both him and Derrickson "never had the opportunity" to write a draft for the Multiverse of Madness. This means that whatever the new creative team will be working with isn't "derivative" of their work. That being said, there seems to be no hard feelings between the first movie's team and the upcoming one, because Cargill noted that he's "very excited" to see where they will take Stephen Strange next.

Following reports on Raimi potentially replacing Derrickson, the director also showed support for Raimi, saying that he is "one of the nicest people" he has known in the film industry. Derrickson thinks Raimi would be a "great choice to take over Doctor Strange."
