There is a lot of excitement right now for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness since, as the title suggested, it is going to deal with the multiverse and we might see a lot of our favorite Marvel characters make a surprise appearance as suggested by Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier showing up in the second trailer. Just like any other MCU film, it is expected to be a huge box office hit and now that the early projections have been unveiled, it looks like the film has the potential to have one of the best openings in the MCU.
According to Box Office Pro, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently projected to have a domestic opening weekend of between $165 and $205 million. If the film does end up getting those numbers, it will be part of the top 10 highest domestic openings in the MCU which is currently topped by Avengers: Endgame's $375 million and followed by the recent Spider-Man: No Way Home with $260 million.
In addition, the upcoming sequel is also predicted to have a domestic box office run of between $400 and $535 million. The first Doctor Strange film had an opening weekend of $85 million. The projected numbers of Multiverse of Madness could easily double the record of its predecessor which was released six years ago.
It is not surprising to hear that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has high projections regarding its domestic opening weekend given the hype and anticipation surrounding it and the rumors and whispers that we might see a lot of surprises which would make it a must-see immediately.
Of course, there is a chance that the current projections might not meet or the results will exceed especially if the buzz goes into an upward trajectory leading up to the release and the marketing might reveal more details that would entice the audience to see it as soon as possible. Let's just wait and see what the results will end up becoming.
