When Will Ayumu Make His Move: What Is the Anime About?

Based on an ongoing slice-of-life manga by Sōichirō Yamamoto - also the creator of Teasing Master Takagi-san - When Will Ayumu Make His Move follows Ayumu Tanaka, a first-year high-schooler who decides to join his school's unofficial Shogi club.

Urushi Yaotome, his senpai, is glad to finally have a shogi partner and endeavors to teach him all she knows.

By the beginning of the show, Ayumu has already fallen in love but resolves not to confess his feelings until he can beat Urushi in a game of shogi. But as Urushi is his senpai, much better at shogi, and totally aware of his crush, how long will this commitment keep him from confessing?

Do Ayumu and Urushi End Up Together in When Will Ayumu Make His Move?

So far, Ayumu and Urushi haven't ended up together, but in this type of romance anime and manga, it is pretty much already known that the characters will, eventually, start dating.

The manga by Sōichirō Yamamoto is still ongoing, so the slow-burn will likely continue for some time.

Meanwhile, in the manga, Urushi comes to slowly recognize and, eventually, accept her own feelings for Ayumu, though not without struggle, as over 100 chapters pass before she even reaches that point.

Furthermore, the manga does eventually feature Ayumu beating Urushi in a shogi game, but this still doesn't persuade him to confess, proving that his resolution was, in fact, more due to shyness than due to pride and making fans wonder what more it will take for him to ask Urushi out.
