Disney Is “Waiting For The Right A-List Filmmaker” To Replace James Gunn On GOTG 3

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn might have the support of his cast, crew, fans and a number of Hollywood celebrities, however, it doesn't seem like Disney has any intention of rehiring the filmmaker for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

According to a report by Variety, insiders close to the matter at hand believe that Disney might not re-hire Gunn, saying that the tweets the director made "were so horrible" and that "Disney has a different standard than other studios."

Gunn was fired back in June because of a smear campaign that brought back a couple of inappropriate and offensive tweets the filmmaker had made fourteen years in the past. Though the director explained that he had previously apologized for those tweets before and that he'd changed since then, Disney insiders say that the Mickey Mouse House wasn't aware the tweets were made and were shocked when they learned of the posts.

However, while Disney has no plans of rehiring Gunn, the company also doesn't feel any pressure to find a new director right away. According to insider sources, Disney is "willing to wait until the right A-list filmmaker comes along." Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo, and Iron Man director Jon Favreau might be popular fan choices, however, insiders say that the "usual suspects" are busy with other obligations. If Disney is looking for a new director, then it looks like the Mickey Mouse House will have to hire outside Marvel's string of filmmakers.
