Disney Fans Convinced The Rock Is Using Moana Following Black Adam Failure

Disney is no stranger when it comes to remaking their classic and iconic animated films into live-action. While the live adaptations usually feature a different set of actors, Moana is set to feature its titular actors Auli’i Cravalho as the titular character alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson who voiced Maui in the original film. However, fans are not at all eager for this new announcement.

Deadline recently announced that Disney CEO Bob Iger held an annual shareholder meeting in which he unveiled that the live-action Moana is currently in development at Walt Disney Studios, with Johnson taking the lead in the announcement. Fans are displeased at the thought of a 2016 animated film already getting a live-action treatment, considering that The Rock is also taking part in the project.

Johnson may be a prominent actor, however, fans are convinced that the actor is merely taking advantage of what little prospect he has left following the Black Adam failure. See, The Rock had been hyping his Black Adam project for years, and since it flopped at the box office, he had exited from DC Studios and the DCU altogether. This ‘reimagining’ of Moana would be his next best shot, it would seem.

The fans have a collectively divisive reaction to the whole shindig. Some have taken to Twitter their expression of disappointment that Disney is choosing to recreate old projects instead of releasing new ones, and the fact that a Moana sequel would have made more sense rather than transforming yet another animation film into another hit-and-miss live adaptation. Here are other reasons why fans are rejecting the idea of Moana getting a live-action remake:

A Live-Action Moana Negates Its Animated Counterpart

There is no denying that animated films have gone AWOL in today’s times. Sure, there’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Elemental coming their way on the big screens, but this just sent fans believing that these films have no other way to go other than getting their own live adaptation sooner or later.

Live adaptations could still be fun and have their own little spin in it, however, given that this is what Disney has been particularly focused on, instead of pushing new projects, fans have expressed their disdain for the whole idea.

Is Disney Running Out of Ideas?

To be fair, Disney had also previously announced that their beloved originals are getting another sequel, namely: Toy Story 5, Frozen 3, and Zootopia 2. While Zootopia's was definitely long overdue, a fifth Toy Story just signals the wrong message to fans, especially since Toy Story 3 perfectly summed up the franchise. Toy Story 4 may have come back crawling for more, but a fifth Toy Story? What would that look like?

The Disney Shake-Up has driven the company to make massive layoffs, considering their cost-cutting budgets as of writing, which has also affected the slow releases of films and series due under Marvel Phase 5. But is a live-action Moana a good way to go?
