Disney Shake-Up Enhances Massively Doubtful Future of Marvel Amid Massive Layoffs

Disney CEO Bob Iger is taking his cost-cutting measures to the extreme as Marvel Studios has not only fired former President of Physical, Post Production, VFX, and Animation Victoria Alonso, but has now also laid off the chairman of Marvel Entertainment, Isaac ‘Ike’ Perlmutter.

According to Variety, a Disney spokesperson confirmed that along with Perlmutter's firing, Marvel Entertainment's co-president Rob Steffens and chief council John Turitzin have also been dismissed. However, the president of the division, Dan Buckley, will be remaining and reporting to Marvel Studios' big boss Kevin Feige.

All Marvel Entertainment had left under their control are Marvel Comics, considering that Marvel's television and animation departments had been previously removed, seeing as television and animation were merged into Marvel Studios back in 2018, which gave more control for Kevin Feige, separate from the divisions under Perlmutter.

All of which begs the question on whether we'll still get to see Marvel Comics thrive in a future already in shambles as of writing.

However, now that Marvel Entertainment is being 'absorbed' under Disney, this emphasizes more on what Disney CEO Bob Iger proposes on budget-cutting, which ultimately resulted in 7000 Disney employees losing their jobs, with a promise of cutting $5.5 billion in costs in the process.

While Ike Perlmutter was considered to be controversial in terms of endangering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he initially almost fired Kevin Feige on the brink of Phase 2, it cannot be denied that his exit from Marvel Ent will cause bigger disruptions on the future and overall existence of Marvel Comics and Publishing.

It remains to be seen as to how the publishing division could ever come back up after the massive layoffs.

Amidst this, Marvel Studios has long been troubled given that Marvel Phase 5 was off to a rocky start with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania had been deemed a huge box office failure despite being the film opener for the Multiverse Saga era in the MCU.

As unfortunate as it is of Disney making massive changes in running things at Marvel, the progression of destabilizing the future of the MCU and its future releases remain dimmer than ever.
