Director Hwang Dong Hyuk spoke about having regrets in one of the things about Squid Game.

A year after Squid Game's global release, the hit Netflix K-drama series continues to expand its empire overseas ahead of its season 2 release. As the director is yet to reveal further details about the upcoming installment, he looked back at his hit series and revealed the regrets that he currently has about the K-drama.

Director Hwang Dong Hyuk Regretting Something About Squid Game

After attending Emmy Awards, the Squid Game team appeared in a press conference where the director talked about the series and its upcoming season 2.

According to the showrunner, as reported by SBS News, it might take them two years to complete the next season. Initially, he wanted to continue the story through a movie. However, he decided to create season 2 first to ensure that there would be no gap between the two seasons.

He added that he considered its cast members before deciding what to do next.

While doing so, he thought about his regret when he killed the characters who made the whole story emotional — Lee Yoo Mi's Ji Yeong and Jung Ho Yeon's Kang Sae Byeok.

He continuously said:

"Every character that the viewers loved have died in the series, so I don't really know what to do at the moment. I had no idea that the series would make it this big! I honestly killed them too fast... I'm sorry! I really want to make them return from the dead, so I have lots in my head these days. I do want to bring 'Ji-yeong' back to life, but her close friend 'Sae-byeok' has died as well, so... I don't know what to do.”

Who Are Lee Yoo Mi, Jung Ho Yeon's Characters?

Lee Yoo Mi and Jung Ho Yeon wowed fans with their acting skills, especially when their characters played the marble game.

Lee Yoo Mi played the role of Ji Yeong, a young woman who entered the Squid Game after serving prison time after murdering her father, who killed her mother.

Meanwhile, Jung Ho Yeon is a North Korean defector who joined the game to gain all the money she can have to pay the broker who can find and get her family in North Korea.
