One of the upcoming Star Wars projects slated for release on Disney+ in the future is a Rogue One prequel series. While fans might presume that the show was planned amidst the development of the streaming service, as it turns out, talks about it have already been apparent even prior to the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

In a recent appearance on The IMDb Show, actor Diego Luna talked a bit about the upcoming series while promoting the new season of Narcos: Mexico. "We said it as a joke many times, then it wasn't a joke anymore," he shared. "I think when we were close to releasing the film, the idea came out."

Luna admitted that he thought it was "never going to happen," and that he had already prepared himself to just "enjoy the ride and then get off and become part of the audience again." "I had to not just prepare myself, but my son," he added.

The actor previously revealed that although his son was happy and excited to see him in the movie, he was "devastated" upon learning that his dad would die in the film. Now though, Luna's son would have the chance to learn more about his father's character and get to see him in more adventures in the upcoming show.

In a previous interview, Luna said they will start shooting the series this year. He teased a "different approach" to the show and that it's not a "typical way" of telling a story. While fans already know how his story will end, there's some other stuff that they are yet to discover.

The show is yet to have a release date but Variety claims the Cassian Andor series will reportedly make its debut on Disney+ in 2021.
