It has already been confirmed that Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom will still feature Amber Heard despite thousands of fans calling for the actor's removal from the DC Extended Universe flick. But is it possible that Warner Bros. has already fired Heard from the project? Heard herself confirmed that she was released from her contract with Aquaman 2 but she had "fought to stay in it."
Amber Heard recently testified in court during the ongoing defamation trial filed against her by ex-husband Johnny Depp. As Heard was cross-examined by Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez, the actress confirmed that her contract with Aquaman 2 has already been terminated.
"They released me from my contract and I've fought to stay in it," Heard said. She then pointed out that "They kept me in it, I just don't know how much I'm in actually, the final cut."
Heard would go on to share how she was presented with a new script that didn't feature an action scene that was originally supposed to involve her character Mera.
"I was given a script and given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that had depicted my character and another character - without giving away any spoilers away - the two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They didn't... They just removed a bunch," Heard said.
So does this mean that Amber Heard has been fired from Aquaman 2? Technically, if she has been released from her contract, it would suggest that she is no longer part of the film. However, Heard's testimony purports that Mera will still appear in the sequel, albeit as a minor character. This could mean that Mera will have a small appearance in the movie but might no longer return in other sequels.
Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is directed by James Wan and will star Jason Momoa. The film is scheduled for release on March 17, 2023.
