Erik Larson's Devil in the White City will be adapted for Hulu, and Keanu Reeves will play the lead role. The show is Reeves' first major US TV role.
What is Devil in the White City All About?
The book Devil in the White City tells the tale of HH Holmes, a physician and skilled con artist who has been called America's first serial killer.
He relocated to Chicago in the middle of the 1880s and started working as a pharmacist after graduating from medical school at the University of Michigan. He started building the house there, which became known as the "Murder Castle."
Holmes' castle, not far from the fairgrounds, was claimed to have secret passageways, trap doors, and soundproof rooms, among other facilities that enabled him to carry out his murders.
During the World's Fair, he allegedly seduced women and proposed marriage before murdering them and stealing their money. After leaving Chicago, Holmes wound up in Philadelphia, where he murdered a man who had assisted him in multiple insurance fraud schemes. He was eventually convicted of murder and hanged in 1896.
Holmes claimed to have murdered over 100 individuals. However, his atrocities may have been exaggerated, and the real number of his victims is unknown.
Who Could Keanu Reeves Play in Devil in the White City?
According to a report from Deadline, Reeves will have a major role in Devil in the White City. Although Reeves will have a key role, the character he will portray is still unknown, according to TVLine.
The eight-part TV show is based on the same-titled book that was published in 2003. The book chronicles the parallel tales of Holmes and Daniel Burnham, the renowned architect who is credited with helping to create the Chicago World's Fair in 1893.
He might play Holmes, or he might have been cast as Burnham, another significant character in Larson's book.
