Shinazugawa liking a Japanese sweet called ohagi is just one of the most surprising facts about the Wind Hashira in Demon Slayer. Behind his intimidating exterior, there are a lot of things that Demon Slayer fans don’t know about him at all.

From keeping an unusual insect as his pet to sharing the same height and weight as the Demon King Muzan, the Wind Hashira is very good at maintaining his mysterious but intriguing persona.

Spoiler Warning: This article includes spoilers for the Demon Slayer manga, so proceed with caution.

  1. He Owns a Beetle

While the other hashira are too busy to keep pets, the Wind Hashira owns a Japanese rhinoceros beetle, as revealed in the first Demon Slayer fanbook.

It’s surprising information since Sanemi Shinazugawa is not the type of person whom people think could keep a pet due to his intimidating and terrifying exterior.

Besides, the demon slayers are pretty occupied with their crows, especially Muichiro, so, surprisingly, the Wind Hashira can still find time to own pets, not to mention an insect!

There are a lot of YouTube videos about caring for these Japanese rhinoceros beetles, but receiving advice from an actual owner such as Sanemi wouldn’t be such a bad idea unless he’s in a bad mood.

  2. He Has the Same Height and Weight as Muzan

Based on the same fan book, it was revealed that the Wind Hashira has the same height and weight as Muzan Kibutsuji.

Of all the people that the Wind Hashira can be likened to, it is the Demon King himself, whom Sanemi Shinazugawa despises the most in the world.

If there is a Demon Slayer movie in the future, Muzan and the Wind Hashira can support each other as body doubles due to how similar their physical features are.

It’s a good thing they don’t look alike, for both the demons and the slayers will have a hard time figuring out who’s who.

  3. He Likes Ohagi

Although the Wind Hashira enjoys eating the wonderful treat known as ohagi, he is reluctant to admit it in front of the other hashiras.

After all, Sanemi has an aggressive and unfriendly image, so it would be strange if someone discovered his fondness for a traditional delicacy.

Perhaps the other hashira could brand him as Mitsuri Kanroji version 2.0 due to his sweet tooth, which would be embarrassing for him.

  4. He Loves Flexing His Muscles

It looks like the Sound Hashira, Uzui Tengen, is competing with the Wind Hashira due to his habit of flexing his muscles.

He loves his muscles so much that he wants to show them off to other people by leaving the button of his uniform wide open.

Who can’t blame Sanemi? He worked and trained extremely hard for his muscles to develop so it’s only right for him to be proud and show them off.

His exposed muscles, in addition to his battle scars, not only scream power and strength, but they also make him look more intimidating than the other hashira.

  5. He Can’t Stand Mitsuri Kanroji

No matter how beautiful Mitsuri Kanroji is to other people, especially Obanai, the Wind Hashira can’t stand her due to her personality. He can’t stand how ditzy Mitsuri is, making it hard for him to work with her.

Honestly, if we were to put the Wind and the Love Hashira together in the same room, Sanemi could either do one of these two actions: kill Mitsuri or suffocate from her extreme skittishness.

It’s a good thing Obanai is there to keep this from happening because he usually works well with Sanemi on missions.

  6. He Once Used Gardening Tools as Weapons

Before Nichirin blades and other weapons, the Wind Hashira used gardening tools to defeat demons!

Who says gardening tools can't be dangerous? Of course, these gardening tools cannot kill demons like the Nichirin blades, but Sanemi has made good use of them.

Sanemi tried to use gardening equipment to tire out the demons. When they became fatigued, he used chains to bind them to a tree until the sun appeared and killed them.

  7. He Has Marechi Blood

If vampires were in Demon Slayer, they would hunt down the Wind Hashira due to how intoxicating his marechi blood is.

Having marechi blood makes someone unique, but it also attracts demons trying to suck the blood out of the Wind Hashira everywhere he goes.

It affects demons in ways that make them insane; even Nezuko had a hard time resisting her demonic urges when she smelled Sanemi’s blood.

Even Muzan and Kokushibo were distracted by Sanemi’s rare blood, but not until they got accustomed to it.
