Tanjiro successfully landed the final blow to eliminate Enmu, but the train started derailing since Enmu fused with the train. Fortunately, none of the passengers are gravely injured. Since Tanjiro was stabbed, he's unable to move properly for a while. He tells Inosuke to help out the train driver and the rest of the passengers. Rengoku shows up next to Tanjiro and tells him to master his breathing even more to lessen the bleeding of his wound.

Suddenly, Akaza, an Upper Rank demon, shows up. As he was about to attack Tanjiro, who was lying on the ground, Rengoku intervenes. The two of them begin to fight. Akaza invites Rengoku to become a demon, considering his strength and potential. Rengoku refuses, knowing that the two of them have opposing principles. The battle between Akaza and Rengoku shows the strengths of an Upper Rank demon and a Hashira. As much as Tanjiro and Inosuke would like to intervene to help Rengoku out, they know that this would be useless since they can barely follow the movements of the two.

After exchanging a series of blows, Akaza moves back a bit farther. Rengoku continues to stand strong, despite suffering from multiple injuries. Tanjiro begins panicking because he can see that Rengoku is already struggling. Akaza tells Rengoku that the two of them should continue to fight.
