Rengoku’s New Total Concentration Breathing Style Explained in Demon Slayer Season 2

For those who are new to the Demon Slayer universe, total concentration breathing is a type of breathing pattern to increase the oxygen in one’s bloodstream and improve lung capacity. It is used by the members of the Demon Slayers Corp for them to enhance their mental concentration and physical abilities whenever they fight against demons.

Kyojuro Rengoku is one of the Hashira. He was the former Flame Hashira who was known for his enthusiastic personality whenever he does his duties. His swordsmanship is unlike any other and his pure heart made it so easy for him to help other people. In Demon Slayer season 2, he introduced a new way to use total concentration breathing.

For those who can remember, in Demon Slayer movie, Rengoku taught Tanjiro how to use total concentration breathing to stop the bleeding of his wound. He added that there are a lot of things one can do with this type of breathing. He was not wrong. In fact, in season 2, he further showed that total concentration breathing style can make someone have inhuman speeds.

Rengoku encounters a mid-level demon named Slasher who has a Blood Demon Art that lets him move at unexplainable speed. Rengoku does not seem to have trouble catching up by using the total concentration breathing alone.

With this, the new season gave fans an idea that total concentration breathing is not limited to swordsmanship. It can be used in other things during battle like what Rengoku did. The episode further explained that there is more to total concentration breathing that Tanjiro and his friends have not learned. Although avid fans of Demon Slayer know the fate of Rengoku, it would be sad that he could not pass on more of his knowledge to the new demon slayers.

What is more interesting is that this part of the series cannot be found in the manga. Some believe that it was weird that the Mugen Train arc was tackled again in season 2 after the movie but it seems like the recap has a good reason to further teach viewers about Rengoku and other abilities that demon slayers have like the total concentration breathing.
