It’s always exciting when a hugely popular manga series gets lined up for a future anime adaptation, and we now have another big series on the way soon! Dededede Destruction is finally getting an anime!
The hugely popular manga series (full name Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction) finally came to an end after eight years of serialisation. At the end of the final chapter, the artist Inio Asano teased a big announcement. Many fans assumed it could only mean one thing, and that was confirmed on March 23:
Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction had been published in Big Comic Spirits since 2014 and came to an end earlier this year with chapter 100. Last year, it won the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award alongside Police in a Pod, which was recently adapted into an anime itself. It was also nominated for an Eisner Award in the US in 2019.
The seinen manga takes place in Tokyo, where a giant alien spaceship floats above the city. However, the seemingly harmless ‘invaders’ don’t really do anything, despite the Japanese government scrambling for a massive war effort.
The story follows two high-schoolers that go about living their normal lives in a world that might, but probably isn’t, coming to an end. It’s a unique story that uses the pretence of an invasion to explore slice-of-life themes such as life, growing up and how adults should behave.
A celebratory video was released, showing Inio Asano in the studio of Production +h, who will be in charge of the series. The young studio is most notable for its work on the recent release The Orbital Children.
This will be the first work by Inio Asano to be adapted into an anime – previous titles have become live-action series. Asano said that he will be taking a supervisory role in the anime. He has been involved in anime himself before, providing the character design for the mystery series The Perfect Insider.
Dededede Destruction Anime Release Date
No release date for the Dededede Destruction anime has been announced at this stage.
From the video above, it appears that some work has begun on the series. However, it would still be a surprise if the anime was released any time this year. Classroom of the Elite Season 2, which was also recently announced, was immediately slated for Sumer 2022.
