Following the release of the first trailer a month ago, Universal Pictures and Nintendo released a new trailer for the upcoming Mario movie. It was also revealed that The Super Mario Bros. Movie features Death Note’s Light VA in the Japanese dub.
The English version of the trailer was shared online on several channels, including studio Illumination and Nintendo’s official YouTube channels.
At the same time, a live stream by Nintendo Japan showed the Japanese dub trailer for the film, revealing the movie’s Japanese main voice cast.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie New Trailer
While practically everyone knows about Mario, not everyone might have followed the news about the movie.
In case you missed it, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is an upcoming animated film that’s co-produced by Universal Pictures, Nintendo, and Illumination.
This is the first film in the Mario franchise since the 1993 live-action film which was a box office bomb.
The new trailer shows off more new footage from the film, including a fight between Mario and Donkey Kong, as well as a Mario Kart-inspired sequence.

As an American co-production, this upcoming Mario movie features well-known actors as the voice cast, including Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario.

Death Note Light VA joins The Super Mario Bros. Movie Japanese Dub Cast
In the Japanese dub, Mario is voiced by Mamoru Miyano who is arguably one of the most popular voice actors in Japan.
Miyano is best known for voicing Light Yagami in the Death Note anime.
He also has lots of other roles, including Rintarou Okabe in Steins;Gate, Osamu Dazai in Bungou Stray Dogs, and Chrollo Lucilfer in Hunter x Hunter.
Miyano is not the only popular voice actor that was cast for the Japanese dub.
Joining him are other well-known VAs, including Kenta Miyake and Tomokazu Seki.
Here are the confirmed Japanese VAs for the Japanese dub of The Super Mario Bros. Movie:
- Mamoru Miyano as Mario
- Arisa Shida as Peach
- Tasuku Hatanaka as Luigi
- Kenta Miyake as Bowser
- Tomokazu Seki as Toad
The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be released in the US on April 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, the film will be released in Japanese cinemas on April 28, 2023.
