Deadpool 2’s Director Discusses Plans for Comedy & Action for Sequel

Deadpool 2 seems to be in good hands as far as the narrative is concerned. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick already have their heads together for a good sequel alongside actor and fellow creative Ryan Reynolds.

Now, director David Leitch, who had joined the fray more recently as the director of the sequel, has a few words to say to JoBlo when it comes to his plans to bringing out the irreverent side of Deadpool—as if we didn't know that yet—and making it shine in the sequel.

"We are already down the road making some really cool choices and it's going to be a blast. There is this fun irreverent nature to Deadpool which is why I fell in love with it. I think you want to keep the DNA of that. It's going to be fun to spin out the world a little bit and expand it."

Similar to what Reese and Wernick have previously said, Deadpool 2 is not worried about making the sequel bigger just to meet expectations, but rather it's about playing against the expectations of usual superhero movies that gives it its own brand.

Leitch goes so far as to say that the action will also be used to further the character and story along, more than just adding to the superhero checklist.

From the looks of it, the collaboration in the team is really solidified, with Reynolds being the brains of the personality, the writers locked in on the story, and Leitch providing a macro direction for the overall project. There's certainly a very tangible teamwork at play, something that I personally think was a good component of what made the first movie a success.

Deadpool 2 is expected in theaters sometime in 2018.
