Daisy Ridley Confirms Rey's Parentage Will Be Revealed in Star Wars: Episode VIII

Since Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit theaters, the mystery of Rey's parentage has been discussed by fans who are curious to know her origin. A bunch of theories have spawned since then, but fans still want to know who is the mysterious father she's been waiting on Jakku for? Why was she left in Jakku?

Given she's certain to have a central role in the new trilogy, fans had wondered whether or not Lucasfilm will reveal her parentage in Episode VIII — or whether they'd instead wait to reveal it on Episode IX!

One of the most popular theories about Rey's origins claims that she is Obi-wan Kenobi's daughter, so when actress Daisy Ridley was asked by Vulture if her character is indeed Obi-wan's daughter, she replied:

"We will see in a year. Just sit tight on that question."

It makes perfect sense that Rey's father would be revealed in Episode VIII since structurally, The Force Awakens was a tribute to the first Star Wars film. The second film, The Empire Strikes Back, revealed that Luke Skywalker was Darth Vader's son. If they continue the deliberate pattern of homage that's running throughout the whole trilogy, it would be fitting to see Episode VIII answer our questions about Rey's origins.
