We already know that Chris Hemsworth is awesome in just about every role he plays but there is one character that has him worried. The Thor: Love and Thunder actor has just admitted that he is concerned about his villainous role in Furiosa, claiming that he thought that his portrayal of Dr. Dementus might "derail" the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel.
Chris Hemsworth was recently a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast where he spoke about his preparations for Furiosa and how he had a hard time understanding Dr. Dementus.
"I just finished shooting Furiosa with George Miller, it’s part of the Mad Max saga, and often I get a script and I know from the first read, the second read, I know who the character is," Hemsworth said. "I get an instant sort of visceral kind of feeling attached to it - ‘Okay, I got it.’ This I had read two years before I started shooting and was in awe of the script. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever read, I love George Miller, but I didn’t know who this character was."
Luckily, things worked out for Hemsworth and Miller.
"We did about four weeks of rehearsals and we started digging in and diving into it, and things started coming to me. And about 2 weeks prior to shooting, something clicked. I went, 'Oh, I think I know who it is and that’s how he moves,’" he continued.
Although Hemsworth managed to figure it out, he admitted that he was worried about potentially destroying Furiosa simply for making a mistake about his character.
"In the build-up, and I’m talking a couple of years, I was scared out of my mind. I’m like, ‘I’m going to derail one of the most iconic franchises. I’m going to bring down Mad Max,’" he said.
We're glad that things eventually worked out for Chris Hemsworth but now we're also curious about his character in Furiosa. Needless to say, we can't wait to see the film in 2024.
Furiosa stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the titular character and is scheduled for release on May 24, 2024.
