Furiosa Star Anya Taylor-Joy Reveals Mad Max: Fury Road's Prequel is the Bloodiest She’s Ever Been

Anya Taylor-Joy, who continues to be a delight on the Hollywood scene, has always kept the fans excited about her future portrayals and how her arrival is going to be a cinematic experience in any sense.

Having been tapped to play the younger counterpart of Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa in the Mad Max franchise, Taylor-Joy revealed to IndieWire that her role as Furiosa was the dirtiest and bloodiest act she ever did in her career.

“It’s the dirtiest and the bloodiest I have ever been, which is saying something, genuinely saying something,” she said.

The Menu actress affirmed that being all bloody and dirty, leaving no sign of beauty and demureness, means she is in her natural element.

She shared, “Any time I get to be dirty or bloody and not perfectly prim and pretty, I’m just having a ball, that’s where I feel most comfortable. So yeah, Furiosa was definitely right up my street.”

Despite her role demanding excellent driving skills, the Queen’s Gambit star revealed that she doesn't know how to drive and is not in a position to get a driver’s license, yet.

“I don’t actually have a license, so I can’t drive. I can't go on a highway, I can’t parallel park… Eventually, I will be in a place long enough to get a driver’s license and then I’ll be really happy, because then I can play.” Taylor-Joy narrated.

Furiosa will serve as a prequel to 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road. The film will be set years before the events of the 2015 film. It will follow a young Furiosa as she gets kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers and ends up in the possession of a great biker led by the Warlord Dementus.

Joining Taylor-Joy in the film will be Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Nathan Jones and Angus Sampson, with the latter two set to reprise their Fury Road roles.

The franchise began in 1979 with Mad Max, and was succeeded by three sequels: Mad Max 2 (1981), Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). Furiosa is the first prequel and the fifth film in the Mad Max universe.

Furiosa is expected to hit theaters on May 24, 2024.
