Thor: Love and Thunder became one of the most divisive MCU films to date when it was released last year. A lot of criticisms were made about its overreliance on humor and its visual effects and some fans believed that its quality might be a sign of the franchise's downward trend.

Despite being a hit at the box office, Thor's future in the MCU remains unknown at the moment although Chris Hemsworth expressed interest in continuing the role depending on the material.

There is also no doubt at this point that the recent film's polarizing reception might have made Marvel Studios step back on their plan regarding what's next for the character in the franchise and plan to redeem him once again.

Speaking with GQ recently, Hemsworth looked back on the reception that Thor: Love and Thunder where he shared that his children's friends criticized the film for having "too much humor" and the visual effects were not as good.

"It’s a bunch of eight-year-olds critiquing my film. ‘We thought this one had too much humor, the action was cool but the VFX weren’t as good,’ I cringe and laugh equally at it," he said.

The actor ultimately admitted that his fourth solo movie as Thor became "too silly" and they had "too much fun," but he still had a great time making the film and pointed out that the audience reception is always unpredictable.

He added, "I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly. It’s always hard being in the centre of it and having any real perspective… I love the process, it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond."

Now that we're almost a year since the film was released, it looks like Hemsworth is now being more candid about what he felt about the film and the reception that he received.

While he acknowledged the criticisms and his recognition that the humor might be too much, he still felt positive about his experience and he wasn't shady in his reflection on the film.

The film's divisive reception is certainly going to be a continuous conversation in years to come depending on how the MCU moves forward or how Thor's future will fare. Nevertheless, the character is still beloved amongst fans and a lot of them are looking forward to seeing Thor reprise the role again.
