Ryu Nakayama has gotten a lot of attention following his work on the Chainsaw Man anime, for better or worse. Now, Ryu Nakayama revealed that he has founded a new anime studio named Andraft.
Nakayama initially hinted at his plans previously. He finally unveiled his new studio recently with a special video to promote a Cardfight!! Vanguard collab.
Along with the studio’s announcement, it was revealed that the company is now recruiting staff members, including outsourced workers.
Ryu Nakayama Announces New Studio Andraft With Special Trailer
Ryu Nakayama is a notable animator who is best known for being the director of the Chainsaw Man anime.
Before that though, Nakayama has also worked on several notable projects, including titles like Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front – Babylonia, and Black Clover.
Nakayama’s work on Chainsaw Man was praised by many for its realistic, film-like style. On the flip side, Nakayama has gotten criticism from a certain section of the fanbase.
From the looks of it, Nakayama is moving on from working under other studios as he has established a new anime studio called Andraft.
The studio’s debut work is a VSPO! esports VTuber agency and Cardfight!! Vanguard collab video.

Along with the new video, Andraft also revealed that it is now hiring staff members, including in-between and key animators, animation directors, and more.
The new studio is also seeking outsourced workers. For select positions, prior industry experience is not necessary.

Chainsaw Man Movie Will Likely Feature a New Director
At Jump Festa 2024, the new Chainsaw Man movie was announced that will cover the Reze arc. The movie’s teaser featured an art style that looked markedly different from the anime’s first season.
This new style, combined with the fact that Nakayama has founded a new studio seems to indicate that MAPPA's new film project will feature a new director.
If it does happen, it should come as no surprise for fans. After all, Nakayama has received hate from a certain section of the fanbase who weren’t happy with his more realistic direction for the anime.
Of course, this is all just conjecture for now, as we’ll still have to wait for more staff info on the upcoming film. In the meantime, there’s also no word yet on Andraft’s first proper series or movie project.
Nakayama isn’t the first director who worked under MAPPA and formed his own studio. The same happened with Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 director Sunghoo Park, who founded E&H Production.
