Cha Eun Woo Addresses Criticisms Toward Island

In the same public appearance, Cha Eun Woo spoke about Island's ratings and critical reviews regarding some parts of the series.

The idol-turned-actor first talked about the criticisms regarding the series' choice not to stay true to its original source material. Island is based on the 1997 manhwa with the same name.

Cha Eun Woo praised the Korean comic book. Although he found the original material amazing, he explained that some parts of the manhwa could be off-putting for modern audiences. He assured that the Island team talked to the original manhwa's author and came up with what they do in the series.

In terms of ratings and rankings, Island ultimately became the first Korean content to appear on Amazon Prime's top 10 rankings. However, the Korean series did not surpass the popularity set by other South Korean flicks, including The Glory.

In addition, Island only had a 7.1 average rating on IMDb, with most commentators criticizing the characterization of some of the protagonists and the CG effects in action scenes.

Amid the criticisms, the team promised to turn the tables in Island part 2 and its next possible installments.
