CD Projekt Faced Hostile Backlash From Employees After Problematic Launch of Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most anticipated games of 2020. It also has impressive financial success after being able to sell more than eight million pre-orders, while topping record sales for PC games. Unfortunately, the game didn't live up to its hype after players found that the game is full of glitches and bugs, especially on last-generation consoles like Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The problematic launch led CD Projekt's shares to go down. The company's stock fell 12% which continues to its steady decline, wiping out any gains for the year. Many fans and critics complained that Cyberpunk 2077 is unfinished, which only adds to the company's dilemma. The backlash was so great that in a Twitter post, the company stated that after discussing with PlayStation, a decision has been reached to temporarily suspend the game's digital distribution.

Aside from the growing complaints from players, rebellion from within is starting to rear its ugly head during a meeting that the board had with employees. This follows as the company keeps getting bombarded with scathing reviews of the thrice-delayed game. Bloomberg reported that there were angry and frustrated employees who asked hard questions to the board, during an internal video meeting.

The video meeting opened with the management apologizing to its staff for the disastrous launch of the game. Developers asked straight-to-the-point questions on the company's reputation. The staff also asked bluntly about the unrealistic deadlines and the rigid overtime hours spent on the game, leading up to Cyberpunk 2077's December 10 release.

The company meeting happened before Sony announced that it will pull out Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store. Sony also added that it is offering full refunds to any buyers who may want one. During the CD Projekt meeting, the directors stated that they had arrangements with Sony, but no further details were given.
