While there was a long gap between the third and fourth seasons, fans of the series will be happy to know that Bungou Stray Dogs Season 5 has been confirmed, and it will be released this July.

The Season 5 announcement was made shortly after the broadcast of Season 4’s 13th and final episode with the release of a new trailer and a teaser visual.

Bungou Stray Dogs’ fifth season confirmation isn’t too surprising given the series' strong fanbase. Though most fans probably didn’t expect how soon it will be released.

Anime studio Bones is best known for animating shonen shows such as My Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and more. But the studio also has lots of non-shonen projects, including Bungou Stray Dogs.

While the ongoing manga source material began in 2012, the anime adaptation began with its first season back in Spring 2016.

After a one-season break, the anime returned with its second season in Fall 2016.

Since then, the gap between seasons has become much longer. For instance, Season 3 aired in Summer 2019 – nearly three years after the second season’s end.

Fans had to endure a much longer wait for Season 4 though as it was released nearly four years after the third season’s finale.

Finally, fans won’t have to wait long as there are only three months between the end of Season 4 and the premiere of the fifth season.

For the show’s continuation, the main staff members from Season 4 will return, including the likes of director Takuya Igarashi, writer Yoji Enokido, character designer/chief animation director Nobuhiro Arai, and more.

The show’s voice cast will also return for the following season, meaning fans will once again hear Yuto Uemura as Atsushi Nakajima, Mamoru Miyano as Osamu Dazai, Sumire Morohoshi as Kyoka Izumi, and Kensho Ono as Ryunosuke Akutagawa, among others.

For now, there’s no word yet on a specific July 2023 release date for Bungou Stray Dogs Season 5, though it’s expected to release early in the month.

It’s also likely that the season will consist of 12-13 episodes based on the previous seasons’ episode count.
