The anticipated Blue Beetle movie has become a part of the new DC Universe once the film debuted on the big screens this August.

Taking into consideration that even DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn previously hinted that the project could tie directly into the franchise reboot which officially kickstarts via Superman: Legacy, there's a strong chance we could see lead star Xolo Maridueña reprise his role in the new DCU.

Apart from Blue Beetle, DC diehards are expecting another character to show up in the flick.

You may have already heard of DC’s upcoming live-action Booster Gold series, right? Well, rumor has it that his first live-action appearance might be happening in the Blue Beetle movie.

While that rumor has yet to be confirmed, here’s a little summary of Booster Gold’s origins and powers, as well as his relationship with Blue Beetle.

Behold, the 'loser from the future'

Pretty much like Blue Beetle, here’s one of the other iconic DCU heroes that have yet to come up in the spotlight on the big screens: Booster Gold.

The gold-blasting hero first appeared in Booster Gold #1 comic book by Jurgens, Mike DeCarlo, Tom Ziuko, and Agustin Mas.

Booster Gold is commonly referred to as the ‘loser from the future’ because, despite his exceeding strength and powers, he’s essentially a time-traveling crime fighter with imposter syndrome.

His real name is Michael Carter, a college football star from the 25th century whose nickname on the field was ‘Booster.’

He grew up without a father, seeing as his old man left their family nothing but a huge gambling debt.

Mike didn’t think he would ever follow in his father’s footsteps into the gambling world, that is until his mother got a disease they couldn’t afford treatment for.

One day, Mike decided to take a wager on his games, in an attempt to earn enough to pay for treatment for his mother.

However, it only led him to a scandal that ruined his future career and reputation, overall.

Upon his release from jail, he took a job as a security guard in the Metropolis Space Museum, where he had an epiphany to change his ways and become a superhero just like the Justice League.

He had realized that there was another way to secure his future and that is by using the time machine on display.

The time machine urged him to travel to the late 20th century, way before his crime was ever exposed, where he could make a profit off his own ‘good deeds.’

Through the time machine, he saved the President of the United States Ronald Reagan on his first trip, and thus, Booster Gold was born.

Booster Gold doesn’t have natural-born powers, but his advanced (25th Century) super suit and technology certainly helped him fill his role.

He can fly and manipulate time without creating any time travel paradoxes, but for what his hero name is worth, he shoots gold-colored blasts from his hands.

Since then, he has fought against criminals alongside different versions of the Justice League and is commonly known to be close pals with the second Blue Beetle, Ted Kord.

Although he almost always ends up wanting to take credit for every single good deed he could use as a part of his ever-growing fame, he is generally one of the good guys who won’t hesitate at a moment’s notice once he sees someone he needs to save.

Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are canonically close pals, specifically, Mike Carter's closest friend of the three Blue Beetle versions is Ted Kord, the second to hail the Scarab suit and powers.

Here’s where they first met: in the Justice League International comic series.

The duo’s dynamic was supposed to work as some sort of comic relief in the series, but you can imagine the surprise of the writers when they bombed beyond that.

Booster Gold and Blue Beetle had always been seen as potential love interests, but this has never been confirmed.

Although, with the multiverse happening in the DCU, there’s a chance that another version of them wouldn’t remain ‘just friends.’

While the comical duo has yet to make their live-action debut, believe it or not, Blue Beetle and Booster Gold had already had their live-action appearances in a series called Smallville.

Jaren Brandt Bartlett played Jaime Reyes, aka the third Blue Beetle, alongside Eric Martsolf’s Booster Gold on the CW show.

Although they only showed up in one episode, Booster Gold was almost killed by Blue Beetle after having lost control of the suit’s autonomy.

Instead of lashing out at Jaime, Booster Gold urged the kid to ‘choose’ what he should do, what he must do, which helped Jaime in securing the blue suit back to its normal state.

Unfortunately, Booster Gold did NOT make his debut in the Blue Beetle movie.

Although we didn't get to see Ted Kord in the movie, either, we do get a little teaser on what Blue Beetle 2 will be about: Ted will be reuniting with his daughter, Jennifer Kord, and potentially train Jaime Reyes in mastering the blue Scarab.

It seems as though Booster Gold’s live-action DCU series will be the first time we’ll be seeing him make his live appearance on screen.

James Gunn did promise, after all, that Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are set to become a part of his new DC Extended Universe.
