Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Has Started Its Production Hiatus As Letitia Wright's Recovery Continues

A while ago, we reported that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to temporarily shut down its production to give star Letitia Wright more time to her injuries from an on-set accident last August. Now, according to Deadline, the production hiatus officially begins today.

In a note to the cast and crew sent today by Marvel Studios bosses Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, and Nate Moore, they addressed the temporary shut down of production as they have run out of scenes to film without Wright. They told them that the hiatus is happening to provide more time for the actress to recover and the plan is to resume filming by January 2022. In the end, they emphasized that they are doing the film to honor the memory of the late Chadwick Boseman. The full note can be viewed in Deadline's report.

However, a recent report suggested that there might be challenges coming ahead during the production hiatus as a recent CDC guideline was implemented where all non-immigrant, non-citizen visitors to the U.S. are required to be fully vaccinated before boarding the flight. Wright is a British citizen and is currently in London for her recovery. She is also reportedly not yet vaccinated.

It is unknown yet how the production will address the recent CDC guideline and how it will affect the overall production once they resume filming. Given that they are planning to continue by January 2022, they still have a lot of time to figure out the contingencies if the CDC guideline will still be imposed by that time and Wright's vaccination status didn't change.

Wright's on-set injury resulted in a huge production setback as her character Shuri reportedly has a more prominent role in the sequel. They've been filming scenes that don't involve the character prior to today's production hiatus. Despite the setback, Disney is retaining its release date.
