Black Panther 2 Production Shut Down After Letitia Wright's On-Set Injury

It looks like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be taking a very long break. Production on the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel has been shut down temporarily. The decision was made after Letitia Wright was injured on the set of the upcoming MCU flick.

Back in late August, it was reported that Letitia Wright was injured on the set of Black Panther 2. The Black Mirror star had been filming an action sequence involving a stunt rig. Although Wright's injuries were reported as not being too serious, it was enough for the actress to be rushed to the hospital.

Initial reports back in August suggested that Wright should be able to recover quickly and get back to work right away. In the meantime, Black Panther 2 continued filming all the scenes that didn't involve her character Shuri. However, a new report from The Hollywood Reporter confirms that most of the production is already done and the only scenes that need to be filmed would be for Shuri.

Since Wright is still unavailable, it has been reported that production take a hiatus starting on the week of Thanksgiving. This way, director Ryan Coogler and the crew will be able to reconfigure the shoot and get things back on track by early 2022.

“Letitia has been recovering in London since September from injuries sustained on the set of Black Panther 2 and is looking forward to returning to work early 2022,” a representative for Wright said in a statement. “Letitia kindly asks that you keep her in your prayers.”

It's unfortunate that production on Black Panther 2 will be put on hold for a long time. However, it should give the cast and crew a much needed break. In addition to that, it would ensure that Wright has enough time to recover from her injuries.

There have been speculations that Wright will not be brought back in Wakanda Forever after she shared anti-vaccination posts on social media. However, it has since been confirmed that Wright will continue to play a huge role in Black Panther 2 and that Shuri is one of the major players in the sequel.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled for release on November 11, 2022.
