Black Panther Casts Forest Whitaker as Wakandan Elder

Marvel Studios' Black Panther is welcoming a new face to the cast. Forest Whitaker has been cast as an elder statesman in Wakanda.

The company announced the new cast addition via its official website. Whitaker's role is Zuri, a Wakandan who was first introduced in the 1998 Black Panther series from Christopher Priest and Mark Texeira.

The little we know about Zuri is that he wields the Spear of Bashenga, and has incredible strength to fight alongside the previous Wakandan King T'Chaka. He is also expected to be an attendant and warrior serving the successor King T'Challa.

What exactly his role will be in the Black Panther movie, Marvel didn't expound any further. However, his introduction wasn't isolated, as Marvel also announced the inclusion of Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, and Florence Kasumba.

Kasumba was already featured in Captain America: Civil War as Ayo, a member of Dora Milaje. Skins' Kaluuya will be W'Kabi, a confidant of Black Panther. Duke will be a leader of a rival tribe named M'Baku.

Other actors confirmed for the movie include Chadwick Boseman, who will be reprising the role he played in Captain America: Civil War as Wakanda ruler T'Challa, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, and Dora Milaje warriors Nakia and Okoye, portrayed by Lupita Nyong'o and The Walking Dead's Danai Gurira.

Black Panther will be out in theaters on Feb. 16, 2018.
