It has been years since the anime’s last season; nearly a decade now, in fact. But finally, Black Butler is confirmed to return with a new anime season in 2024.
The continuation of the Black Butler anime was announced by Crunchyroll at Anime Expo 2023.
Alongside the show’s announcement, a key visual for the upcoming season and a new trailer was shared online.
While the Black Butler manga is ongoing and still has a large fanbase, it has been years since the last anime season aired.
Given this, lots of fans were delighted to know that the anime is finally returning.
Black Butler Is Back With First New TV Anime in Nine Years
Black Butler’s new season was announced at the Crunchyroll panel at Anime Expo 2023.
Unlike Spice and Wolf (another hit 2000s anime that will return soon), Crunchyroll emphasized that this will be a continuation instead of a reboot.
While Crunchyroll hasn’t revealed much about the anime yet, the new season’s trailer did give fans a taste of what to expect.
Based on the trailer, we won’t get a Season 2, as this new season will feature Sebastian and Ciel.

The first season of the anime began airing in Japan back in 2008. Since then, the anime has received three seasons, as well as a 2-part OVA series. There was also an anime film which was released in 2017.
Although the show will continue where the last anime project left off, A-1 Pictures will not be back to animate the series.
Instead, Bocchi the Rock! and Horimiya studio CloverWorks is taking over animation duties.

New Black Butler Anime Reveals 2024 Release
CloverWorks may be replacing A-1 Pictures, but it was confirmed that Daisuke Ono will be back as Sebastian Michaelis along with Maaya Sakamoto as Ciel Phantomhive.
As the show continues to have a large and passionate fanbase, lots of anime fans were delighted by the new announcement.
Many were also happy that the show will be a continuation and not a reboot.
There’s no info yet on the show’s official premise, but fans believe that the new season will cover the manga’s School Arc. This is based on the last events that happened in the anime.
The new Black Butler anime season is confirmed to release sometime in 2024.
It will be streamed by Crunchyroll in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS.
