Birds of Prey Star Mary Elizabeth Winstead Teases Huntress' Return in Black Canary Film

We already know that Jurnee Smollett is returning as Dinah Lance in the upcoming Black Canary film. But will she reunite with Helena Bertinelli in the HBO Max movie? Mary Elizabeth Winstead has addressed the possibility of reprising her role as Huntress in the Birds of Prey spin-off project.

The Black Canary film was confirmed to be in development last week. In addition to Smollett's return as the former burlesque singer, Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green was revealed to pen the screenplay.

But are they other Birds of Prey characters showing up in the movie? Fans are hoping that Huntress and Renee Montoya will be part of the project since Birds of Prey concluded with them teaming up with Dinah in a new vigilante group.

Winstead has finally addressed her possible involvement in Black Canary. While speaking to Collider, the Kate star admitted she was hyped up for the movie.

"I'm super excited about the Black Canary movie. I love Jurnee, I love the work that she did and I can't wait to see what they do with that," Winstead said. She then pointed out that Warner Bros. has not yet called on her to return as Helena.

"I have no idea what other characters are gonna potentially be involved. I don't know if Huntress is gonna continue on in some way," Winstead said. "You know, there are so many different iterations of Huntress whether it's in the comics or in TV and film, and so I don't know if my version of her is gonna continue on."

Not surprisingly, Winstead confessed that she wouldn't turn down the chance to bring Huntress back.

"I do love her and if there was an opportunity to do that then I would be down for it, so we'll see!" she said.

We would love to see Huntress joining Black Canary in the latter's standalone movie. However, Warner Bros. has not yet confirmed Winstead's involvement in the film. Still, we're hoping that an official announcement will be made soon.

Black Canary has not yet been given an official release date but is expected to stream exclusively on HBO Max. Winstead's new project Kate will premiere on Netflix on September 10, 2021.
