Black Canary Movie Officially In The Works for HBO Max


Dinah Lance is getting her own movie. Jurnee Smollett has been confirmed to return as Black Canary in the planned Birds of Prey spin-off film for HBO Max.

Cinelinx confirms that the Black Canary movie is now being developed and will stream exclusively on HBO Max. Smollett is confirmed to return as the burlesque singer turned driver turned vigilante. The project has also found a screenwriter in Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green.

This is great news for Lovecraft Country fans who were disappointed by the show's cancellation. Although the series will not be getting a second season, fans can rest assured that Smollett and Green will work together again soon.

So far, Smollett is the only star confirmed to appear in the Black Canary film. However, there are speculations that the movie will also feature other Birds of Prey characters. After all, the project concluded with Dinah teaming up with Renee Montoya and Helena Bertinelli aka Huntress to create the vigilante group Birds of Prey.

For now, there is no confirmation whether Rosie Perez or Mary Elizabeth Winstead will appear in Black Canary. However, fans are hoping that the movie will tease another Birds of Prey project in the future.

There have been several incarnations of Black Canary in DC projects. The character appeared in the Birds of Prey series as well as the CW Arrowverse shows. However, the upcoming film will be the first project to focus fully on the DC comic book character.
