Black Canary Writer Hypes Up Lovecraft Country Reunion with Jurnee Smollett

In case you missed it, HBO Max is moving forward with a Birds of Prey spin-off film focusing on Black Canary. Jurnee Smollett has been confirmed to return as Dinah Lance and Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green will pen the script. Not surprisingly, Green is excited about working with Smollett again and has hyped up their upcoming reunion.

Smollett might be best known as Black Canary but she also played a significant role in Lovecraft Country. Her character Letitia Lewis was expected to return in the second season before HBO decided to cancel the series. Still, the cast and crew of Lovecraft Country had a close bond which explains why Green was eager to work with Smollett on a new project.

Green took to her official Twitter account to celebrate being a part of Black Canary, a project she couldn't resist because of Smollett's involvement.

The tweet included a series of emojis that appeared to be clues at what to look forward to in the Black Canary film. Fans are still trying to decipher what it means but a tiger emoji might be confirmation that Bronze Tiger will make an appearance in the movie.

For now, Smollett is the only star confirmed for Black Canary. However, there are speculations that she will be joined by Birds of Prey co-stars Rosie Perez and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who played Renee Montoya and Helena Bertinelli, respectively. However, it is important to point out that the casting has not been confirmed so it's best to take this with a grain of salt.

Black Canary will stream exclusively on HBO Max.
