The original Lando Calrissian actor Billy Dee Williams candidly weighed in on Donald Glover's version of the beloved Star Wars character.

The iconic actor famously played the role in the original trilogy. Since then, he reprised the character in various animated shows and video games. He returned to the role in live-action in The Rise of Skywalker.

Glover took over the role in Solo: A Star Wars Story and is set to reprise the role again in a spinoff film where he will also serve as the co-writer.

In an interview with RadioTimes, Williams shared his thoughts on Glover taking over the role of Lando Calrissian. He first praised the actor for being "talented" and "imaginative."

"He's part of a whole new generation. He'll create whatever he needs to create, to bring appeal to the character. He's a very talented young lad and very imaginative," he said.

"I mean, it's not for me to say what he should do with the character at this stage. I took care of the 20th century, now he’s got to take care of the 21st."

However, Williams pointed out that there can only be "one Lando Calrissian" since he is responsible for bringing the character to life.

"I had a nice little lunch with him. He's a delightful young man. Extremely talented. But I don't see him... I mean, when it comes to Lando Calrissian there's only one Lando Calrissian. I created that character," he added.

Williams also shared the only advice that he gave to Glover: "I told him to be charming - two words! That's all I needed to tell him. That's all I could think of."

Since The Rise of Skywalker, Williams has not played Lando Calrissian again in live-action. However, he is still open to reprising the role under one major condition.

"Pay me a lot of money and I'll sell my soul," he jokingly said.

For many fans, there is no doubt that Williams' portrayal is the one that they always associate with whenever they think about the character.

With Glover now essentially taking over the role for the current generation, it is interesting what he'll do with the character in the spinoff movie especially since he is also co-writing the project.
