Sorry, fans, but Big Little Lies Season 3 may never happen, according to one of its stars, Zoe Kravitz. It has been three years since viewers last saw the Monterey moms, and it looks like it will be the last.

Big Little Lies Season 2 is believed to be the series' final outing. However, fans remain hopeful for the coming of Big Little Lies Season 3, as teased by some of its cast members.

No Big Little Lies Season 3 Will Happen

In a video interview with GQ, Kravitz answered a fan question about the HBO series' possible return.

"I don't think it is [coming back], she said.

One reason that the show will not return is the untimely passing of its first-season director Jean-Marc Vallée.

"We talked about doing a Season 3 a lot," she continued. "Unfortunately, Jean-Marc Vallée, our incredible director, passed away this last year, which is heartbreaking."

Kravitz explained that she couldn't see The Big Little Lies Season 3 happening without Vallée.

"He really was the visionary for that show," she added. "So, unfortunately, it's done."

Jean-Marc Vallée's Untimely Death

Vallée died on Christmas Day in 2021 after suffering a "fatal cardiac arrhythmia secondary to severe coronary atherosclerosis," a family statement revealed. He was 58.

After the tragic news, the show's cast members shared their condolences on social media and paid tributes.

Nicole Kidman called the late director "the center of her creative universe."

"I can't overstate his significance to me," she wrote in a post on Instagram, along with a series of photos with Vallée.

"Jean-Marc was not only responsible for some of the most rewarding professional experiences of my career," she continued. "But his friendship, kindness, and love were an inspiring force I will carry with me."

Cast's Hopes for Big Little Lies Season 3

Before Kravitz broke the big news, her fellow cast members were optimistic about Big Little Lies Season 3.

David E. Kelley, who wrote the series, said that getting the cast back together would be a "nightmare," but it might still happen down the road.

Alternatively, Kidman claimed Kelley and book writer Liane Moriarty already had a good idea for a third season, though nothing had yet materialized.

In addition, Laura Dern kept hopes for a third season alive.

"I mean, we would all love nothing more; we're like family, just very lucky," she told Entertainment Tonight. "I say, let's hold out hope. Let's keep asking, it might just come true."
