Benedict Cumberbatch has confirmed that he is set to make his MCU return in the upcoming team-up film Avengers 5.
The Sorcerer Supreme made his most recent appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Since then, he hasn't shown up again in another MCU project and there were no official announcements yet regarding a third solo movie.
There have been speculations from fans that he is set to make an appearance in Avengers 5 since he is a pivotal member of the team. Now, we have a confirmation from the actor himself.
Benedict Cumberbatch Reveals He's Returning in Avengers 5
In a recent sit-down interview video for Netflix, Cumberbatch opened up about his tenure as Doctor Strange in the MCU.
He revealed that he is set to return to Avengers 5, which will begin filming next year.
"It's been a very lovely relationship with that company. I'm very much looking forward to Avengers [5] next year," the actor said.
Considering the character's key role in the Avengers team, it's not surprising to hear the actor confirmed his return and it is a welcome announcement for many fans who are looking forward to hearing more about the upcoming team-up film.
Recently, reports revealed that Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy is Marvel Studios' current top choice to helm the MCU film although he hasn't officially signed on yet.
It was also confirmed that more than 60 returning MCU characters are expected to appear in Avengers 5, and now we can expect Doctor Strange to be part of that list.
We should be hearing more potential casting updates about Avengers 5 in the coming months as Marvel is prepping for its start of production next year and find out who else will join the Sorcerer Supreme.
Avengers 5 is slated for release in theaters on May 1, 2026.
